Henry & Mary
Official Number
62705

The Henry & Mary was launched in September 1869, and her first master was Capt. Henry Bond. The newspaper report of her launch implies that the schooner was named in honour of Capt. Bond and a sister, though it seems more likely that it was for Capt.Bond and his wife, who had been married in the previous month.   The Henry & Mary was built by William Ashburner & Son at their Hindpool shipyard in Barrow, and she traded for Thomas Ashburner & Co. for most of her life. Her masters included Capt. Henry Bond jnr., Capt. Latham (1874) and Capt. N.Taylor (1877-8).

The bulk of the career of the Henry & Mary was spent in the Irish Sea trade, and when she went missing at Christmas 1879 it was on a voyage from Liverpool to Douglas with coal. Capt. James Tinsley and two others were lost with her.
