Launch report from the "Cumberland Pacquet and Ware's Whitehaven Advertiser", Tuesday, 24th July 1849, page 3 :
" About noon on Saturday last, a handsome substantially-built schooner, named the Brothers, was launched from the building yard of Messrs.Petty and Postlethwaite, at Ulverston. The new vessel is to be commanded by Mr.Edward Storey, of that town, late master of the schooner Bee, and from her size seems to be well-calculated for the general coasting and channel trade. From the long experience and well-earned reputation of the builders there is no doubt but she will prove herself both good in quality and something more than average in her sailing qualifications. The vessel left the ways in beautiful style, amidst the cheers of a large concourse of spectators. "The Brothers was owned by William Postlethwaite of Millom from 1873 until her loss in 1882. She collided with the Barrow steamer Ardeer one mile SW of the Walney lighthouse, on the 19th July 1882, whilst on passage from Duddon to Saltney with a cargo of cast iron ingots. She was lost with all hands (Capt.J.Jones, two crewmen and one passenger).
