The George 4th was built by William White at Canal Side, Ulverston. She was a two-masted schooner, launched in January 1873.

The George 4th was berthed at Saltney on Census night in April 1881, and and only one crewman was listed as being aboard:
 

Thomas Moore 37 Connahs Quay, Flint, Wales Mate

The George 4th had been bought by William Postlethwaite immediately upon her launch, and remained with this Millom fleet until her loss on the 15th March 1901.
