Mary Atkinson

Official Number
56948

The Mary Atkinson was the third schooner to be built by shipbuilder William White at Ulverston. She was launched broadside into the Ulverston Canal on the afternoon of Tuesday, 31st March 1868. Her first master was Capt.J.Swainson and her owner was William Postlethwaite. However, he kept her only until November of that year, and she later turned up in the fleet of Harrison, Ainslie & Co., or listed under the name of their shipping agent, James Geldart, in the Barrow Times shipping intelligence columns.

The Mary Atkinson was reported "Missing" in January 1881. She had departed Newport for Newry with a coal cargo on the 19th October 1880, and was last seen at Milford on the 22nd October 1880.
