Nora Caine
Official Number
62972

The schooner Nora Caine was built by Gough at Bridgwater in May 1871. She was owned by Millom's Duddon Shipping Association from her launch until her sale in February 1895, presumably after the sinking referenced below. Trevor Morgan tells me that ultimately the vessel was refloated and sailed again, but I have no further details on this.

From the Times newspaper, Friday, 15th February, 1895, page 8 :

" DISASTERS AT SEA : A vessel which has been submerged at Portpatrick for some days has been identified as the Nora Caine, of  Bridgwater, 93 tons register, which left Duddon on February 1 with a cargo of coal for Port Glasgow. Her crew numbered five. "
From the Manchester Guardian, 15th February 1895, page 8:
" A Portpatrick correspondent states that the vessel which has been submerged there for some days past has been identified by the owners' representative as the Nora Caine, of Bridgwater, Somerset, 93 tons register, which left Duddon on February 1 with a cargo of coal for the Port Glasgow. her crew of five were :- John Dodd, master, Millom; Daniel Fell, mate, Ulverston; seamen, Walter Slater, of Millom; and two other seamen, one of whom belonged to East Tarbet, Loch Fyne."
