The schooner British Queen was an iron-hulled vessel built at
Preston by W.Allsup in 1864. She was bought by Thomas Ashcroft, a Barrow
shipowner. In the late 1870's she joined the larger Barrow fleet of James
Fisher. She was sold by Fishers in 1924, and was reputed to have been their
last sailing vessel.
The British Queen was broken-up in 1955.
