The schooner Claggan was built at John Gough's shipyard at Bridgwater, Somerset. It appears from the entries in the Barrow Shipping Register that she was supplied as a bare hull and fitted-out at Barrow by Hugh Bannister, described as a shipbuilder in the register. She was sold by Bannister to John Fisher on completion in 1876. The Claggan stayed as part of the Fisher fleet until 1912, when she was sold to O'Keefe of Waterford.
At the time of the 1881 Census (1st April) the Claggan was berthed
at Barrow and the crew were listed as follows:
| Robert Williams | M | 34 | Amlwch, Anglesey, Wales | Master |
| Eleazer Owen | M | 45 | Dwyran, Anglesey, Wales | Mate |
| William Owen | U | 18 | Dwyran, Anglesey, Wales | AB |
The Claggan sank off Co.Down on the 13th February 1923.
