Elizabeth Alice

Official Number
54546

The Elizabeth Alice was a three-masted schooner built at Bowling Bay, Dumbarton, in September 1866. She was owned by James Fisher & Sons of Barrow for most of her career.

On Monday, 11th February 1889 the Elizabeth Alice stranded in a snow storm near Dungeness. One of the crew was washed overboard, the others eventually saving themselves when the tide went out. In the meantime, the local lifeboat, the Lady Alice, had been launched, manned by coastguards. Three of her ten crew were washed out of the boat, and one of these, George Hamlin, could not be saved. He left a widow and six children.

The Elizabeth Alice remained registered at Barrow until 1919.
