Soulby's Ulverston Advertiser, 10th September 1857;

" LAUNCH AT HINDPOOL - A fine vessel of 140 tons burthen, built of larch cut from the Gummershowe plantation of Lake Windermere, was launched on Saturday from the yard of Messrs. Joseph Rawlinson & Co. at Hindpool, who have a new patent slip on the eve of completion. This is the first vessel built by the firm. The vessel was built and laid down from lines by Mr. Robert Reay jun., one of the firm we believe.The launch was uneventful, and was followed by a dinner held at the Ship Inn."

The Gummershow was a two-masted schooner, and was the third vessel built at Barrow-in-Furness, following the Jane Roper and Tom Roper built at the rival Ashburner shipyard. The Rawlinson & Reay shipyard was eventually to build several more schooners at Hindpool, and, like the Gummershow, all were initially managed by Joseph Rawlinson and would eventually enter the fleet of James Fisher.

The Gummershow was sold to Spanish owners in April 1899.
