Maid of Mostyn | Official Number
13082
|
The schooner Maid of Mostyn was built at Mostyn, a coal port
on the River Dee, in 1839. From 1850 she was owned in Barrow, first by
Joseph Rawlinson and from 1872 by James Fisher.
It was reported in January 1840 that the schooner Maid of Mostyn,
Capt.Edwards, from Dublin for Glasson Dock, foundered with all hands
off Howth Light. The report was mistaken, as Capt.Edwards was certainly alive and still in command of the schooner in 1842.
In October 1844 the Maid of Mostyn, Capt.Hughes, from Chester for Dublin, was reported ashore at Dundalk, but was got off.
The Maid of Mostyn was lost with all hands on passage from Britonferry
to Belfast with 160 tons of coal. She and her crew of four were supposed lost
in a gale on the night of 13th November 1874.
