JH Barrow

The JH Barrow was built at Matthew Simpson's Glasson Dock shipyard in Lancaster and was launched on Monday 30th August 1863. She was bought new by the Barrow shipowner Samuel Jervis. The launch report states that she could carry more than 250 tons deadweight. She was to be coppered and was intended principally for foreign trade. Her first master was to be Capt. William Tyson.

The JH Barrow was berthed at Penzance, Cornwall for the April, 1881 Census. Her crew were listed as follows:

In Lloyd's Register for 1887-88 her master is named as Capt. Hosker, appointed to the Shipping Line and to the vessel in 1886.

For 14 years the JH Barrow was commanded by Capt. Edmondson Charnley, who later took command of the Mary Sinclair.  The JH Barrow was sold in 1921 and foundered in 1947.
