The Betsy was a flat owned and commanded by E.Bewley of Barrow-in-Furness when she was lost ten miles NE of the Point of Ayre, Isle of Man, on the 24th April 1885. She had been carrying a coal cargo from Workington to Kirkcubbin with two crew and was lost after developing a leak in a Force 9 gale from the SSE, foundering at 5 am on Friday, 24th April. The crew, the master and a boy, took to the small boat, and after five hours were picked up by the steamship Cargan and landed at Maryport on Saturday morning.
