The Chili was a brig built at Ulverston in 1820. She spent her
early years in the trade to South America, but in 1833 she was owned in London and reported
to be engaged in a voyage to Van Diemen's Land, sailed from London 22nd
October 1833, under the command of Capt.T.H.Nixon. She was at Mauritius
in December 1834 and arrived at London from Sydney on the 21st July 1835.
She then made a voyage to New Zealand, and in July 1836 the Chili,
Capt.Nixon, landed settlers from Launceston at Williamstown (see Source
2). The Chili departed Launceston on the 8th September 1836 for
London.
The Chili was sold to owners in Sunderland, then Middlesbrough,
and had disappeared from the shipping registers by 1852.
