The sloop Fox was built at Preston by Samuel Speakman. She was
registered at Lancaster. The first subscribing owners in 1841 were the
brothers John and Henry Bond from Hesketh Bank. Capt.
Henry Bond was also her first master. The other owners, each holding
eight shares were as follows: Thomas Roper of Backbarrow, Iron Master;
Isaac Crossdale, Low Wood, Timber Dealer; Anthony Smith, Torver, Timber
Dealer; Richard Clark, Tothill Bank, Timber Dealer; James Ashburner, Bardsea,
Maltster and Elizabeth Robinson,Colton, wife of Rev. Rowland Robinson
