The S & EA Charnley was built for Richard Fisher at the Ulverston shipyard of  Richard and William Charnley in 1872. She was commanded by Capt.Stephen Charnley.

The S & EA Charnley foundered two miles off the South Stack, Anglesey, on the 18th July 1881. She was carrying guano from Liverpool to London and was owned by R.P. Fisher of Ulverston. All the crew were saved.
