The Fenella was a 100 ton wherry built at the Bath shipyard at
Douglas, Isle of Man, in 1838. She was owned by James Aitken, the Liverpool
owner of the shipyard, and she operated in the fruit trade. Fruit schooners
had to be fast, and on a trial run soon after her launch it was reported
that the Fenella achieved a speed of 11 knots.
