Manxman

The Manxman was a smack built at Port St. Mary in 1839. In 1872 when she was lost her owners were Thomas Watterson and John Taubman, of Kirk Rushen, Isle of Man.

The smack had sailed from Port St. Mary during the night of 15th August 1872. She tacked too far East when trying to get out of the bay and struck rocks at about midnight. Capt.Elliott and the crew abandoned the vessel in the small boat and reached safety. The Manxman had broken up by the afternoon She had been bound for Liverpool with  a cargo of 80 mease of herrings.
