The Speculation was a smack built at Laxey, Isle of Man, in 1835. At the time of her loss in 1845 she was registered at Derbyhaven, owned by William Faragher.

The Speculation was lost, without loss of life, on the 2nd October 1845, whilst on passage to Castletown from Whitehaven with a coal cargo, under the command of Capt.James Lawson. In poor visibility she was wrecked on the Skerranes rocks at Langness Point, the crew subsequently rowing themselves to safety in the small boat.
