Launch report from the "Cumberland Pacquet and Ware's Whitehaven Advertiser", Tuesday, 11th January 1842, page 3 :

"  On the 31st ult., a splendid new barque named the Speed, was launched from the building-yard of Mr.Williamson, at Douglas, Isle of Man. The Speed registers 262 tons, new measurement, and in point of model and workmanship is considered as fine a specimen of naval architecture as ever left the above yard. She was built for and will be commanded by Captain Wheelwright, of the Mary, of this port, and is intended for the South American and West Indian trades."
