The Express was built by Matthew Simpson at Glasson Dock, Lancaster, and launched on Wednesday, 7th March 1860. She was a schooner, built to Special Survey, and for Whitehaven owners. She remained owned at Whitehaven by the Kelly family for most of her live, before being sold to owners in the Irish port of Arklow.
