Lancaster

Official Number
26126

The Lancaster was a brig built by James P.Nicholson at Glasson Dock and launched with the name Prince Royal on the 12th December 1841. The vessel was registered first at Lancaster, with Nocholson as the sole owner. The port of registry was changed to Liverpool in 1843, probably when the vessel was sold to the Booker line, for whom she would have transported sugar from Demerara (see John Horrocks history).

It appears that the Lancaster had a long career and was eventually owned in West Hartlepool, where she would have been involved in the coal trade from the North East ports to London.

The Lancaster, described as a brig, of West Hartlepool, was abandoned at sea on Monday, 14th October 1877. She was bound from Seaham for London with coal, and her crew were saved and landed at Middlesbrough.
