The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, Thursday, 6th September 1832;
" By the Lord Liverpool, which arrived yesterday from Hokianga, we have received the following shipping news, and other interesting particulars, from New Zealand :-The ship Meredith, of Liverpool, Captain Fullerton, last from the Sandwich Islands, was totally wrecked in crossing the bar of Hokianga River on the 13th of July. One of the crew only was drowned; but the natives plundered every article that could be saved of the cargo, and even the clothes of many of the unfortunate sufferers. The Wesleyan Missionaries, however, manifested great hospitality, supplying all their wants. Captain Fullerton, the chief officer, and carpenter have come up to Sydney by the Lord Liverpool, and the rest of the crew were to sail for Launceston in the Bolina about the 21st."
