Rambler

Official Number
84966

The Rambler was a two-masted schooner built at the Nicholson & Marsh shipyard at Glasson Dock, Lancaster. She was launched on Thursday, 31st January 1889, and was the fifth schooner built at the shipyard, following the James Williamson, Lunesdale, Mostyn and Ryelands. The schooner's first master was Capt.R.Roskell, and the vessel was to be managed by James Helme, who was later to be managing owner of the J.W.Wearing, from the same shipyard. His daughter, Miss A.B.Helme, christened the Rambler, which was intended for the coasting trade.

The Rambler was wrecked on the 28th March 1930 at Luce Bay, Solway Firth, carrying a cargo of scrap iron, and under the command of Capt.Davies. She was still registered at Lancaster, and had had an auxiliary motor installed.
