Thomas Whitworth

The Thomas Whitworth was a schooner built  at Matthew Simpson's shipyard at Glasson Dock, Lancaster, launched on Monday, 6th November 1854. She had been built for Benjamin Whitworth, of Fleetwood and Manchester, owner of a fustian warehouse at Fleetwood. The schooner was described by the local newspaper as of 220 tons burthen, and was launched with masts and yards fitted, and rigging partially complete.

The Thomas Whitworth , bound from Fleetwood for Belfast, was wrecked on North side of the larger Copeland Isle (at the mouth of Belfast Lough) on Thursday, 5th December 1867. The master and one man were drowned, the rest of crew were saved.
