The Valentine was a 117 ton brig launched from the shipbuilding yard of Christopher Ashburner, at Skerton, near Lancaster, on St.Valentine's Day, 1827. She was the last vessel to have been built at the Skerton shipyard, which had been operating for about 45 years, and which had been sold the previous October to clear the owners' debts, the Valentine being on the stocks at the time.

A schooner, also named Valentine, was built at Glasson Dock in 1849.
