The Preston Guardian, Saturday, 12th May 1849;

" SHIP LAUNCH - On Tuesday last, a beautiful new schoooner, of 200 tons burthen, was launched from the dock yard of Messrs.Nicholson and Simpson. She is named the Valentine, and is intended by the owners, Messrs.Simpson, for the Mediterranean, or South American trade. She is of the new Aberdeen build, sharp at the bows, and will evidently be a fast sailor. Though the weather was exceeedingly fine, the attendance of spectators was not numerous."

The Valentine was registered at Lancaster and had only a short career, being lost in March 1850, according to the Lancaster Shipping Register. The following newspaper report was probably refering to her:

The Liverpool Mercury, Tuesday, 30th July 1850;

" Valentine, Jackson, sailed from Maracaibo for this port on the 24th or 25th of March, and has not since been heard of."

A brig, also named Valentine, was built at Skerton, Lancaster in 1827.
