Jilt

Official Number
29601

The Jilt was a schooner built by Edgar at Port St.Mary, Isle of Man in July 1861. She was initially owned by Thomas Qualtrough, harbour master at Port St.Mary. She was engaged in foreign trade during her early career.

In November 1894 the Jilt, bound from Glasgow for Castlehaven with a coal cargo, Capt.E.Mylchreest, was stranded on Arklow Bank, her crew of four abandoning the vessel in their own boat and making the safety of Wicklow harbour. The schooner floated the following day, and was salvaged and brought into Wicklow harbour by local men.
