The Kate was a wooden schooner, launched on Tuesday, 9th April 1872 from "Mrs.Graves ship-building yard" on the quay at Peel, Isle of Man. She was christened by Kate Graves, daughter of the shipbuilder, at the request of the schooner's future master, Capt.Henry Watterson. The schooner was intended for the fruit trade, and was 230 tons burthen.

The Kate was still in the shipping registers in 1922-3.
