The Allerby was a wooden barque built at Maryport by R.Ritson
& Sons, launched in May 1878. Her first master was Captain M'Kenzie and her first voyage was from Liverpool to Valparaiso,
leaving on the 17th June and arriving on the 20th November 1878.
She returned to Liverpool from Callao, arriving on the 1st April 1879.
Under the ownership of Ritson and Co., and the command of
Capt.McKenzie, the Allerby seems to have worked variously in the trade to South America nitrate ports and to the Caribbean.
By 1889 the Allerby had been sold to Greek owners and renamed Princess Sophia.
