The Breakwater was a sloop built at Northwich, Cheshire, in 1760. In 1840 she was registered at Maryport and was owned by Samual Shaw and John Wood. On the 1st December 1845, still owned by Mr.Shaw, she was lost off Castletown, Isle of Man, in a severe gale. Capt.Huddart, his son and another seaman were lost with the vessel, which had been carrying a cargo of oak timber, bound for Maryport.
