The Historia was a barque built at Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia in 1852 and was first registered at Pictou. She was later owned in London and Liverpool, and was involved in deepwater trades (see Sources 2 to 4). In 1865 the Historia was owned by John Telford, jeweller, of Maryport, and was registered in that port (see Source 5).

From an unndated newspaper cutting, October 1870 (see Source 6):

"A MARYPORT BARQUE ABANDONED AT SEA - The Historia barque of Maryport, 380 tons register, M'Allister, was picked up at sea, abandoned , by the fishiong smack Otter No.4, Summer, of Morecambe, Lancaster, on Thursday last. She is iron ore laden from Barrow for Newport. Three hands from the Otter toook charge of her until fallen in with on Friday by the Kirkless (s), of Liverpool, Cowell, from Fleetwood for Belfast, when she was taken in tow with a flag of distress flying, which the chief officer of the Kirkless, Mr.Hawker, hauled down, and towed her to safe anchorage at the foot of the Wyre, where the Kirkless left her; Captain Cowell sending instructions to his agent to send the steam-tug Wyre to tow her into Fleetwood, which was done the same evening. She was fallen in with about 15 miles N.W. from Fleetwood lightship, and at that time had from eight to nine feet of water in her hold. On the starboard bow are two holes, and from them the water ran out freely when the vessel was grounded in the harbour. The holes have been plugged up, and she is now moored alongside the quay."
