Rising Star

The Rising Star was an iron barque built at Dumbarton by Birrell, Stenhouse & Co. in May, 1877. She was initally owned by her master, Capt.H.Melmore, and was registered at Maryport. In 1891 she was sold to Maryport shipowners Ritson & Co., and Capt.W.Nelson replaced Capt.Melmore. About 1902 the Rising Star was sold to owners in Genoa (renamed Sollecito), and subsequently she was owned in France, registered at Marseilles and re-named Marius Ricoux. She became a hulk at Sydney in 1911 and was scuttled off Bald Head, Albany, in 1928.
