The Rising Star was an iron barque built at Dumbarton by Birrell,
Stenhouse & Co. in May, 1877. She was initally owned by her master,
Capt.H.Melmore, and was registered at Maryport. In 1891 she was sold to
Maryport shipowners Ritson & Co., and Capt.W.Nelson replaced Capt.Melmore.
About 1902 the Rising Star was sold to owners in Genoa (renamed
Sollecito), and subsequently she was owned in France, registered
at Marseilles and re-named Marius Ricoux. She became a hulk at Sydney
in 1911 and was scuttled off Bald Head, Albany, in 1928.
