Flimby

The Flimby was a brigantine built at Maryport by the Wood family, and was the last vessel built at this shipyard. She was launched on the 29th September 1862. She was owned by Robert Welsh, of Flimby, in her early years, and was registered at Maryport throughout her life.

The Flimby was wrecked on Barnstaple Bar, Devon, in a NW Force 10 storm, on the 11th Sept 1903. She was bound from Glasgow for Teignmouth with a coal cargo, under the command of Capt. A.Farquharson. He and the other four crew were rescued. The vessel was owned by J.Irwin, of Dublin, at the time of the wreck, and was described as a 119 ton wooden brigantine.
