Netherby

Official Number
93677

The Netherby was an iron ship launched in May 1886 from the Maryport shipyard of R.Ritson & Co. Ltd. She was a sister ship to the Ellenbank and was initially managed by her builders. Her first voyage was from Liverpool to Melbourne, departing on the 18th August 1886 under the command of Capt.Chellew (previously of the Ilala). She arrived off Cape Otway on the 25th November.

The Netherby departed Maryport on the 21st June 1906, bound for Talcahuano, Chile. She was last seen by another vessel on the 13th July, and was lost with all hands. It was believed that she was one of several sailing ships lost that year in the ice of the Southern Ocean.
