Tallentire

Official Number
25629

The Tallentire was a brig built at Maryport by Isaac Middleton, and launched on the 1st July 1840. Initially owned and registered at Maryport, she operated in the trade to India and South America. On what was probably her maiden voyage, the brig Tallentire, from Bordeaux to Mauritius, collided with the schooner Lady Bassett, Lisbon for Liverpool, at 44.24N, 9W, on the 28th November 1840. The master of the Tallentire was judged to be at fault by the court of inquiry.

In her later life the Tallentire was sold to Liverpool owners, then Whitehaven owners, and was lost in 1862 or thereabouts.
