The Thomas was a schooner built at Sunderland in 1835. In 1850 she was owned by her master, Robert Carswell of Palnackie, and three Carswell relatives, John, also of Palnackie, James and Thomas, a miller from Dalbeattie.

Still owned by T.Carswell, and described as a brig (see source 2) the Thomas was grounded and wrecked in a NE 8 wind two miles SSW of the Bell Beacon in the Queen's Channel, river Mersey, on the 21st April 1872. The vessel was on passage from Runcorn for Waterford with a cargo of salt, and one of her four crew was lost.
