The Albion was brig built by James Shepherd at Whitehaven in 1786.

Jollies Cumberland Guide & Directory, 1811, lists the vessel as a ship, owned and commanded by Capt.J.Watson (see Source 2).

On the 18th August 1814 the Albion, under the command of Capt. John Farquar, was carrying a cargo of wine, gin, brandy and dry goods from Greenock for Cork. She was captured, her cargo stolen and the vessel then set on fire by the French-American privateer Prince de Neufchatel. The Whitehaven brig had 8 men and four guns, and was outmatched by the 320 ton, 13 gun brig. On the same day the Nymph of Whitehaven was also was captured by the privateer, but survived.
