The Ann Humphreys was a brig built at the shipyard of Shepherd & Leech in Whitehaven. She was launched on the 6th November 1865 and was owned by Humphreys & Co. of Whitehaven.

From the Cumberland Pacquet newspaper, Tuesday, 7th November 1865, page 5 :

" SHIP LAUNCH -  Yesterday morning Messrs.Shepherd & Co., shipbuilders, Whitehaven, launched a beautiful new brig of the following dimensions:- Length, 97 feet 6 inches; breadth, 22 feet 6½ inches; depth 12 feet 10 inches; registered tonnage, 175 tons. The brig was launched rigged, and presented a very imposing appearance as she took to the water. She is intended for the Pomaron trade, and has been built for Mr.Thomas Humphreys and a Whitehaven ownery, and will be commanded by Captain Pearson. She carries a beautiful figurehead by Allen and Clotworthy, of Liverpool, representing Miss Anne Humphreys, who gracefully bestowed her own name upon the vessel as she went down the ways."
In 1900 the Ann Humphreys was owned by J.Hall of Arklow, Ireland, and had been re-rigged as a schooner. On the 2nd August 1900, whilst on passage from Ipswich to Plymouth with a cargo of manure, the vessel was in collision with the steamship Hispania, of South Shields. She sank six miles SE of the Owers lightship. Her master on this final voyage was Capt.R.T.Hall and she carried five other crew.
