New Triton

Official Number
none

The New Triton was a sloop built by Thos. & Jno. Brocklebank at Bransty, Whitehaven, in 1814. She was sold by the Brocklebanks and appears appears to have spent her early career as a packet vessel operating between Whitehaven and the Isle of Man.

The New Triton survived several strandings on the Cumberland coast. She was finally wrecked outside Whitehaven harbour after grounding there on Christmas Eve 1823.

Lloyd's List, Friday 9th January 1824, page 1;

" WHITEHAVEN, 5th Jan.- The New Triton, Smith, from hence to Ballyshannon, grounded about half a mile after she got over the Bar on the 24th ulto. She had put out 15 tons of coals on the 29th, but from the late heavy Gales at NW it is feared she has gone to pieces."
