Whitehaven

The Whitehaven was a brig built by Thos. & Jno. Brocklebank at Bransty, Whitehaven in 1824, preceding the Manchester and Bransty. The vessel was sold from the Brocklebank fleet in 1831 and was subsequently renamed Bolivar, her registry then being transferred from Whitehaven to London.

The Bolivar, Capt.Berryman, foundered on the 28th November 1853. She was two days out from Demerara, bound for London with a cargo of rum and sugar. The crew were taken off by the brig Lady of the Lake and were landed at Barbadoes.

NB. Another brig named Whitehaven was built in 1825 at Whitehaven.
