Antigua

The Antigua was a barque built by H. & George Barrick at Whitby, first registered in May 1858. She was principally owned by Robert & Henry Jefferson, spirit merchants of Whitehaven, and her master, Capt. Joseph Wise, also held shares. After being fitted out at the shipyard the Antigua sailed directly from Whitby on the the 10th June 1858, bound for the West Indies with seven passengers and a cargo of manufactured goods. She joined two other vessels in Jefferson's fleet, the British Queen and the Derwent, seemingly engaged in the Jeffersons' own business with their Caribbean interests.

The Antigua traded principally between Whitehaven/Liverpool/Belfast and the Caribbean, until sold to Dutch owners in October 1880.

The masters of the Antigua were Capt. Wise (until 1863), Capt.Joseph Morgan  (until 1868), Capt.John Wood (until 1869), Capt.Dnl.Mclean (until 1872) and Capt.Francis T.Calf (until 1880).
