Byam

Official Number
none

The Byam was a ship launched at Whitehaven on the 9th August, 1803, by Samuel Nicholson. In 1805 the Byam sailed from Liverpool for the Caribbean, under the command of Captain Dawson. She sailed in a small convoy from Antigua on the 7th June, under the protection of HBMS Netley and HBMS Barbadoes. The following day they met the French combined fleet, which, despite being purued by Admiral Lord Nelson, had time to capture 13 or 14 vessels, which included the Byam and the Urania, both of Whitehaven.
