21092

The Excel was a brigantine built by Lumley Kennedy & Co. at Whitehaven in 1859.

The Excel was wrecked on Harry Furlong's rocks, Cemlyn Point. Anglesey, on the evening of 14th February 1892. She was carrying a cargo of clay pipes from Teignmouth to Weston Point, under the command of her owner, Capt. T.Curran of Portaferry, Co.Down, and with four other crew, all of whom survived. The lifeboat was launched to aid the vessel, but her crew were unable to make way against the heavy seas, and eventually rowed back to the shore. The Cemaes lifesaving crew had also been called out, and were able to haul the crew to safety.
