Miranda

Official Number

The Miranda was a barque built at Whitehaven by Lumley Kennedy & Co., launched on the 30th January 1854. Her owners were Bowring & Co. and the vessel was registered at Liverpool for all of her career.

The Miranda was wrecked on the 29th December 1874, off the Brunswick river, at the border between New South Wales and Queensland. She had sailed from Brisbane under the command of Capt.Charles Lakie, to load a cargo of cedar at Brunswick river. The cargo had not been ready when she arrived. Whilst waiting at anchor, the weather deteriorated and the anchor chains parted, the vessel subsequently grounding and becoming a total wreck. All the crew were saved.
