The Aethelberht was an iron barque built by Williamson at Harrington in August 1876 (4 months after what was probably her sister ship, the Aethelstan). Like the Aethelstan, she was owned by White, Forman & Co. and was registered at Liverpool. Her commander was Capt.P.C.Bourner.
