Æthelstan

The Aethelstan was an iron barque built by Williamson at Harrington, launched April 1876 (four months before what was probably her sister ship, the Aethelberht). She was owned by White, Forman & Co. and was registered at Liverpool. Her first commander was Capt.E.Bayley. The Aethelstan was lost by fire off the South American coast, bound from Fleetwood for Valparaiso, Chile, on the 27th October 1887, without loss of life.

" AETHELSTAN,- Rio Janeiro, Oct.28 - British barque Aethelstan abandoned on fire. Crew and passengers saved and landed here.".
