Belina (or Bolina)

Official Number
none

The Belina was a brig or snow built at Workington by William Wallace. She was launched on Saturday, 30th July 1825, for Capt.William Thompson. She was copper-bottomed at the time of her launch, indicating she was intended for deepwater trades. She left Workington for her first voyage, to North America, on Friday 19th August. In these newspaper reports the vessel was named Bolina, but in all subsequent records the name is given as Belina.

The Belina spent most of her career in the trade to Canada.

The Belina, of Workington, was wrecked at Wexford, with loss of the mate, on the morning of 29th November 1838.

The Cumberland Pacquet & Ware's Whitehaven Advertiser, Tuesday, 11th December 1838, page 3;

" The Belina, Wilson, of Workington, from Quebec for Strangford, was totally wrecked near Wexford on the 29th ult.; most of the cargo has been washed on shore. The crew, with the exception of the mate, have been saved."
