The Arethusa was a brig built at Whitby in 1827. In 1840 she was registered at Workington, owned by her master, Capt.Robert Brown, and others.

The Cumberland Pacquet and Ware’s Whitehaven Advertiser, Tuesday, 1st February 1842, page 3;

“ The Arethusa, Brown, of Workington, was driven ashore on the west side of St.John’s Pier, at the above port, during the fearful tempest of the 26th, and has since become a complete wreck. – The hull and materials it will be observed are advertised for sale in another part of our present sheet.”
