Cingala
Official Number
51430

The Cingala was a full-rigged ship built by Charles Lamport at Workington, and launched on the 2nd January 1865.

Launch report from the Cumberland Pacquet newspaper, Tuesday, 10th January 1865, page 8:

" On Monday se'nnight there was launched from the building yard of Mr.C.Lamport, an excellent ship for Mr.Nichol, of Liverpool. She was named the Cingula. Her length is 180 feet; breadth, 32 feet 3 inches; depth, 20 feet 9 inches; register 799 tons; builders' measurement, 816 tons. She is classed A1 at Lloyd's for 14 years, and is intended for the China trade."

The Cingala started her career in the trade to China. In May 1866 she arrived at Sydney from London, under the command of Capt Edward Neilson (see Source 2 for Crew List), and she seems to have operated in the Australian trade for some years after this. The ship was wrecked on the west coast of Panay (an island in the Philippines) on a voyage from Hong Kong to New York in 1871.
