Launch report from the Cumberland Pacquet newspaper, Tuesday, 22nd
February 1825;
" On Saturday last was launched from the building yard of Mr.William Wallace, at Workington, a fine, new copper-bottomed ship, called the Clifton, of 316 tons register, built for Capt.Joseph Bushby, and intended for the Quebec trade - a new vessel of 300 tons register, for the same trade, was contracted for at the building yard of Messrs.Thomas Peile and Co., Workington, on Thursday last."<>The Clifton was reduced to barque rig sometime before her loss. Bound for Glasson Dock from Quebec with a timber cargo, she was wrecked at Annaside, near Bootle, Cumberland, on the 9th January 1841. The crew were saved. >
NB: Another vessel named Clifton
was
built at Harrington.
