The Cumberland Pacquet, Tuesday, 22nd
February 1825;
" On Saturday last was launched from the building yard of
Mr.William
Wallace, at Workington, a fine, new copper-bottomed ship, called the Clifton, of 316 tons register,
built for Capt.Joseph Bushby, and intended for the Quebec trade - a new
vessel of 300 tons register, for the same trade, was contracted for at
the building yard of Messrs.Thomas Peile and Co., Workington, on
Thursday last."
The Clifton was reduced to barque rig sometime before her loss. Bound for Glasson Dock from Quebec with a timber cargo, she was wrecked at Annaside, near Bootle, Cumberland, on the 9th January 1841. The crew were saved.
NB: Another vessel named Clifton was built at Harrington.
